One Dead, Two Injured in Fatal Miami Two-Car Crash.

Miami, Florida authorities report that alcohol may have been the cause of an early morning car crash that left one young woman dead and two other people injured this past Wednesday. The 5 a.m. car accident occurred on Biscayne Boulevard at Northeast 15th Street when a Smart Car drove through a red light and t-boned a silver Chevy Silverado truck.

The Smart Car, a Car 2 Go rental car, was driven by 22 year-old Mila Dago. The young woman was rushed to the hospital in critical condition. Her passenger and friend, 22 year-old Irina Reinoso, was pronounced dead at the scene of the auto accident. Reinoso’s brother Luciano mourned his sister’s untimely death, “I love you, wake me up from this dream . . . She was a beautiful, beautiful soul. She was a free spirit, she just made everyone around her laugh.” Despite his sister’s wrongful death, Luciano is not vengeful, adding that “they were just having a good time for the night and unfortunately people don’t think things fully through and these are the consequences but we’re not upset at the driver . . . You can’t really point fingers in a situation like this.” Reinoso’s former co-worker Jamil Perez added, speaking directly to his deceased friend, “I miss you so much and I know that you’re in a better place and thank you for all the beautiful memories.” He went on to say, “I’m sure everybody feels the same way, she was an unforgettable soul.”

The 49 year-old driver of the truck, Benjamin Byrum, was transported to Jackson Memorial Hospital emergency room with head and back injuries. He was treated and released, and he is recovering from a concussion and spinal injuries at home.

The intersection was closed off for hours following the car accident as police investigated and was reopened by midday. A Car 2 Go spokesperson from the rental car company’s Texas headquarters stated that they are working with local authorities in the investigation. He explained that all Car 2 Go vehicles have a GPS tracking device that will enable police to discover where the car was rented and where it had been hours before the crash.
