Police officials in Huntsville, Texas report that three students were killed and one was seriously injured in a rollover car crash that took place on the campus of the Sam Houston State University this past Saturday, December 14, 2013.
According to the Huntsville, Texas Police, the students were driving on Avenue I and Bowers, at approximately 4:50 a.m. early Saturday morning, when the vehicle went off the road and rolled over. Then, the vehicle crashed into the lobby of the university’s Academic IV building.
Three of the students in the car, Blanca Espinal, 19, Eric Torres, 22, and Alfonso Mata, 20, died at the scene of the auto crash. One student, 23 year-old Thomas Roling, survived the car accident, and was rushed by ambulance to the emergency room at the Huntsville Memorial Hospital. Roling was later transferred to the St. Joseph Medical Center, where he remains a patient. Doctors at St. Joseph are optimistic about Roling’s condition and his chances for a complete recovery.
Huntsville Police officials are investigating the fatal car accident and are refusing to speculate as to possible causes of the single-car auto crash. University events continued over the weekend without any cancellations.
