Two New Jersey High School Basketball Players Hospitalized After Car Accident.

Two students from the Union Catholic High School basketball team have been hospitalized with serious personal injuries after an unfortunate car accident in Watchung, New Jersey this past Friday night.

On Friday, January 17, 2014, Ashton Lofton and David Hawthorne were driving home with other teammates from a basketball game in which Union Catholic High School defeated Rahway High School. The car’s steering wheel had apparently locked up on Route 22, causing the car to cross over the median and strike another vehicle head on.

Lofton and Hawthorne were rushed to the emergency room of University Hospital, where Lofton was diagnosed with a broken pelvis, and Hawthorne was placed in a medically induced coma to treat brain injuries.

The entire catholic high school community of New Jersey, headed by the Archdiocese of Newark, is praying for the two injured students and hope that they come back from this terrible car accident.
