This idyllic scene was shattered by a speeding minivan, which first roared onto the sand from the nearby road and then made a beeline for the water. Stunned beachgoers watched as the minivan splashed into the waves of the Atlantic \u00a0Ocean.<\/p>\n<p>Frantic emergency calls for lifeguards summoned a rapid response from the Volusia County Beach Safety Ocean Rescue team. Lifeguards dove into the water and pulled three children, aged 10, 9 and 3, as well as the delirious woman driver, from the sinking minivan. The lifeguards brought the victims to the shoreline, where a waiting ambulance drove them to the emergency room of a nearby hospital.
