Man Charged With DUI And Vehicular Homicide After Crash On Christmas Day Killed Boy.

Julio Ruiz was drunk and driving more than double the speed limit when he crashed his car early Christmas morning. The crash at the intersection of Cortez and Sunrise Boulevards, in Fort Pierce, Florida killed Issac Santillan on his ninth birthday and seriously injured two others. Blood tests revealed Mr. Ruiz’s blood alcohol content was .145 that night, according to Ed Cunningham, spokesman for the Fort Pierce Police Department. The legal limit in Florida is 0.08.

Mr. Ruiz, 29 years-old, was charged late Monday with: vehicular homicide; DUI manslaughter; two counts of child neglect with great bodily harm; two counts of DUI with bodily injury; one count of DUI with property damage; and driving with his license suspended. Mr. Ruiz remained late Tuesday in the St. Lucie, Florida County Jail, where he has been held since January 5th on unrelated charges.
