Dangerous Racer Arrested After Setting Manhattan Record.

New York City police have arrested 30 year-old Christopher Adam Tang on several criminal charges relating to Tang’s alleged race around the island of Manhattan in New York City.

Anyone who has ever driven in Manhattan has witnessed its nightmarish traffic, confusing one-way streets and less-than-sane regular drivers. Bad traffic is no excuse for lateness for those who work on the island, and Christopher Tang has decided to demonstrate why. On August 28, 2013, Tang uploaded a dashboard camera video of his record-setting loop around Manhattan. Two days earlier, Tang drove his 2006 BMW from East 116th Street to Battery Park, and then back up West Street, finishing once again at East 116th Street. Tang made the loop at night and encountered only six red lights during his journey. Tang drove the 25-mile distance in 24 minutes and 7 seconds.

Tang uploaded the video of the record-setting race around Manhattan to the video-sharing website YouTube. Within a few days, the New York Police Department viewed the video and used license plate readers placed around the city to track down Tang and his car. The police arrested Tang on serious criminal charges, including reckless endangerment.

While Tang did complete the journey without striking another person or vehicle, his actions were incredibly dangerous and reckless. The slightest miscalculation or unexpected movement could have caused a serious car crash. Dangerous drivers who cause car accidents must be held accountable for their actions.
